Dear Ira Glass,

I have finally succumbed to your ways. The episode on music lessons sucked me in. I will now cross off band teacher from my list of future professions.

I am forever hooked.

Sincerely yours,

“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”
— Joseph Campbell

Even once we figure out the life that’s waiting for us, sometimes it still defies the kind of planning that makes people like me comfortable.

Abre los ojos

A favorite quote of mine that seems more and more applicable this year is “Feel the fear and do it anyway.”

I was fearful of attending my first art retreat during my vacation in Portland. I was fearful of taking continuing education classes at a design school and not knowing what I was doing. And I was fearful of taking a running class because I am not a runner. But despite feeling all the fear that came with new, scary things, I did them anyway, and I’m glad I did.

So while I’m throwing fear to the wind – or at least turning a temporary blind eye to it – I finally bought a domain and have a website and sort of figured out how to use it enough to install a template (it’s taken me four hours and it’s still not how I want it and I imagine it’ll be a long road figuring out how to get it that way).

I’m not sure how this site will turn out, or what I’m going to be putting on it, or what I really got myself into. So for now I’m just going to refresh the browser to remind myself that I’m not dreaming.
