I’m a designer in New York City by way of Kansas. I was laid off in August 2009, entered the world of freelancing shortly thereafter, then traveled for five weeks on a crazy wonderful Jet Blue promotion. Now I’m figuring out what I want to do next.
Design and typography constantly inspire me and are part of the reason I want to start a stationery company. Words constantly fascinate me — from what we say to what we actually mean to all the different ways to convey something. The launch of This Ordinary Day in May 2008 helped me get back into writing. Since then I’ve contributed two posts a month.
In October 2008, I started running (the last time had honestly been gym class in 1996). Thanks to some amazing, encouraging coaches at New York Road Runners, I got hooked — and I’m nearly finished with qualifying for the 2010 NYC marathon (the qualifying part being much easier than training and the 26.2-mile race).
One day I want my own puppy and a house with a porch, grey walls, a chandelier and a big desk. But until then, I keep it cozy in my small New York apartment with an overflowing bookshelf and walls plastered with inspiration.
As much as this site will be about my journey, I’m hoping you’ll share yours with me as well.
